Videography
Since the quality of video equipment has so dramatically
improved, it should be no surprise that video taping your special day has
become just as traditional as still photographs.
Capturing your wedding on video tape will preserve a very
precious memory for you and your groom to review, enjoy, and share
with family and friends for many years to come. It will capture the feelings, expressions
and moments of your special day, so select your professional
videographer carefully.
TRENDS IN
VIDEOGRAPHY
- Videotaping Your Wedding
- About
80% of the couples today are choosing to have a least the ceremony, if
not both the ceremony and reception videotaped
- More Special Effect
- With
the latest equipment and techniques available today, sophisticated
videographers are using special effects and creative edition to produce
wedding videos that have TV production quality.
- Still Photographs
- Another
popular trend is to edit still photos into the video of the couple, as
babies, or photos of special moments they have shared.
- High Quality
- The
trend is toward high quality videos, shot with two cameras and
post-edited with graphics, music and titles. High-band wireless microphones are
used to capture good, clear sound, with ease of movement.
FINDING A GOOD
VIDEOGRAPHER
- Recommendations from Friends
- View
the video tapes of friends who have recently been married. If you are impressed with the quality
of the tape, then get the name and number of that videographer
- Bridal Fairs
- Bridal
fairs of local bridal shows are a great place to meet and see samples
of videographers’ work. Get
cards and information about the ones that impressed you the most. Then
follow up with a more in-depth interview
- Bridal Consultants
- Since
many consultants go over the rules and regulation with the videographer
and are there the day of the wedding to view his work, they can often
be a good source
WHAT MAKES A
HIGH-QUIALITY VIDEO
These are a few
things to look for when viewing a sample tape of a videographer you’re
considering
- All
the equipment used must be the most up-to-date, high-quality,
professional video equipment, including the editing and dubbing machine
- The
segments of events in the video should tell a story, detailing the way
the events occurred on your wedding day.
- Look
for good, steady use of the camera, clear sound, good color and a sharp
picture.
- Notice
how the shots are framed. Does
the image fill the frame nicely, without having certain things cut out,
like the bride’s headpiece?
- Notice
the editing techniques used. Do
they use a seamless electronic method of editing? Does the video look
smooth as it moves from one scene to the next?
Questions To Ask
Your Videographer:
- Ask about quality of equipment and recording
tapes they use. Is it updated, high-quality, professional video
equipment.
- How many cameras do they use to shoot the
wedding?
- Do they use a wireless microphone?
- What is their fee? Is it hourly charge or flat
fee for shooting the wedding and reception?
- How many hours of coverage are provided?
- Are editing, titles and music included in the
quoted price?
- Is the unedited master tape available to
purchase?
- What is the cost of additional tapes?
- When will I receive my final tape?
- Will they have back-up equipment in the event of
a problem at the wedding?
- Ask to get a contract detailing exactly the type
of video coverage you’re expecting, number of cameras, amount and type
of editing, titles and music included in the price, name of camera
person, date, time, location and appropriate dress to be worn
